The thing I wonder when considering 32-48kg bell is that maybe it would be handy for heavier deadlifts. I don't currently have gym access and can't have barbell in our apartment. I already have 16-20-24-28 bells. Maybe doing uneven deadlifts with 28 and 42 would feel really bizarre?

Thanks. That loaded mile seems extreme, definitely a different league than myself. I'm happy if I can bear hug one of my usual <100 lb rocks and carry it an 1/8 to 1/4 mile up the trail. The rock adds in some variability with its unique geometry, but adds an element of a puzzle. You quickly realize carrying big boned rocks that being able to switch holding positions is important if your goal is simply to move the mass up the trail. You also learn that resting weight on meat, not bone, is better and has a crazy affect making the joint feel loose. It's sad when they go missing however (public trail) & being in California I'm still waiting for the day when I get a tongue lashing for ruining the environment.

I really like one of your cues for the kettlebell swing: attack the zipper. Considering the double kettlebell clean is a swing, is that cue still applicable? Or does the extra space needed for 2 kettlebells swinging back necessitate a different approach (such as letting the bells swing a bit lower)? I find them hitting my thighs when I try to “attack my zipper”

I purchased a 64kg because doubles throws me in a weird place. Legs have to open wider, lessens the power of the thrust. Yes heavy is great but you have to have a good reason for them. I have also purchased the 40s, and 56kg specifically for one hand and double handed swings for the same reasons.

One armed push ups on the knees until one can build up to the toes - are a great way to develop the pecs without injury. One can also use their other arm to assist them slightly as needed. This movement allows for more ROM than a regular barbell press,as well as more intensity across the upper, lower, and mid pecs. One armed push ups *can* be injurious to the shoulders if done thoughtlessly, but doesn't come w near the risks of a barbell or even a dumbbell press. Resistance bands are the next best option for pecs - or a cable machine.

I can't believe how fast I go down and up with this weight. This rack walk ups and rack walk downs with short rest periods was so effective, is it good idea for loaded carry, to walk up and down in weight like that?

Re: The Inman Mile. I tried this once back when the "Old School Strengh Forum" was still up in the late 1990s as a stupid 20-year old. I put 60 kg on the bar, and decided to walk around the perimeter of my house. Back and front yard, uneven grassy ground. Walked out of my garage, made it half way around the back yard... went "Oh HELL naw", and dumped the bar onto the grass with a satisfying THUMP, leaving two large divots in the ground.. Left the damn thing sitting there for a couple of days, until my Mum nagged me to move it and mow the lawn.

Coach just did my first EMOM ABC workout yesterday. It was amazing. I can press 40 lbs but started off with just 25 lb kettlebells on both hands. Did it for 30 mins. I find that doing cleans with two hands is harder to maintain clean form than with one hand. I’ll work on that. I will be sure to try the humane burpee on my next workout. Curious why did you name it the humane burpee 😮

I ran through mass made simple with front squats, its definitely hard. I dropped the load as you suggested here Dan, kept everything else the same. Gained 12 kilos and lost an inch off my waist so the program was a success there. Made it to 24 reps on the final day, plus the power clean to pick the wieght up. I really should do it again back squatting to compare.

Just my two cents, but I'm not entirely convinced tennis players would benefit much from serious weight training. I think it makes sense to breakdown sports broadly into four categories for strength development. Category 1 might include sports with no contact or semi contact and that have low power demands, like tennis, soccer, and basketball. These are sports that don't seem to require hardly any strength at all. I would instead look at those as needing a bare minimum of strength, which is essentially just being stronger than a sedentary person. Category 2 might include semi-contact sports with higher power demands, like volleyball and baseball. These are sports where an intermediate level of strength is more appropriate. Category 3 would be full-contact sports with high power demands, like football and judo (position and weigh-class dependent). These sports require more advanced levels of strength. Category 4 would include true strength sports like powerlifting, weightlifting, shotput, etc. These sports obviously require strength at the most elite levels. I think these categories reflect well the weight room numbers you tend to see from athletes in these sports. So, while I think there's no reason a tennis player shouldn't work with barbells, I also don't think they have to. Their strength requirements are so low that I suspect they could do full-body workouts on the Nautilus equipment instead and it wouldn't make a difference.

@@DanJohnStrengthCoach In seriousness, though, I wonder about this for sports with low strength requirements. But for a tennis player, I honestly don't know if it really matters what modality they use for that training.

exactly what I have been doing with a 32kg kettlebell; of course I used the single kb version of the abc complex so 15 minutes is around 16 reps, 8 each side. On weekend I sometimes go with a longer workout with a similar structure to your 500-swing day in the 10000 swings challenge program, with reps cut down in proportion (for I only have a 32kg bell). Military standard for most military schools is 12 miles in 3 hours or less with 35 pounds. Even the girls have to do that. so aim for 15 minute miles. Start with 4 miles, then 6 and so on. Work up to 12. If you do 12 in less than three hours you’ll really have no desire to go any further. And I’m with Dan, 35 pounds is more than enough. I’ve done the 100 pounds for 15 miles and watched dudes drop like flies.

Just finished my 10th workout on Even Easier Strength. 36 140 working out less than a year, but have sporadically in years prior OHP I was doing 3x5 with 30's so I've been using 20's for EES, today I did 35's for a double. Weird sensation, I've done a 35 for a single before & honestly this time it felt just as heavy, it just... went up... twice. Didn't feel like it was going to but it did, no jerk at all. Will probably move up to 25's for the next 2 weeks Pull ups I could do about 3, 4 if i kicked real hard on the last one... I started EES with 6 singles but I had MAPS issues, so I switched to 6 negatives counting to 5 each time, on gymnastics rings to give all the joints a little more leeway. Today I did 6 full pull ups--same deal, they didn't feel easier but they just kept happening. Will probably stick with the 6 negatives for another few workouts & then either add time or shoot for 2 sets of 5 once my joints feel up to it. Deadlifts I can't really speak on because I'd never done them prior to this, so I used it as an excuse to start & have just been using light weight and focusing on form. Today I did a double with two 45 pound kettlebells but I'm sure I could have done 10-12. I guess the big win here is "I started doing deadlifts". Long term I think chasing higher reps with what weight I have is... well, far superior to "nothing" Abs and carries feel stronger, but hard to quantify other than it takes me longer to get tired. I was new on the ab wheel so 2x5 felt "about right" at first but today I did a set of 10 and could have easily done another.

Interesting point about pitching right and batting left handed. When i started playing cricket i bowled left handed and batted right handed completely independently. No one told me to do otherwise.

It makes sense from simple logic...and experience seems to back this up.

Love Dan's podcast. Another great strength podcast is Mitchell Hooper's. He has an academic strength and fitness background to go with his credentials as one of the world's top strongman competitors. I think if you like Dan's content as much as I do, you will also appreciate Mitchell's well thought-out, no B.S. content, too.
